    What's the story

In yet another incident that shows law and order has been taken for a ride in Uttar Pradesh, a bomb was hurled at a court in the capital Lucknow in broad daylight on Thursday.

Two lawyers were injured in the attack that was aimed at the joint secretary of the Lucknow Bar Association, Sanjeev Lodhi.

Lodhi accused lawyer Jitu Yadav of orchestrating the attack.

    What happened

Epicenter of attack isn't far from Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha

The attack happened at Lucknow Collectorate in Hazratganj, which is close to the office of the district magistrate. The place is barely one kilometer away from UP Vidhan Sabha, which remains heavily guarded all the time.

Eyewitnesses said at least three crude bombs were recovered from the spot.

Before the explosion, two rival groups of lawyers had a scuffle, said reports.

Furious lawyers condemned the attack, demanded action against culprits

Condemning the breach of security, lawyers, dressed in black coats, registered a protest and demanded that the culprits are arrested soon.

Visuals that emerged from the spot showed that police officers were present at the spot and tried to placate the angry lawyers.

The lawyer who was attacked expressed fury and said that "unruly elements" must be removed from the court premises.

    Quote

How did unknown men enter court premises, asked Lodhi

"How did these unknown men (who threw crude bomb) enter the court premises? This is a breach of security. A few of my colleagues were injured. I escaped unhurt. Strict action should be taken or incidents like these will repeat," Lodhi said.

    Looking back

Last year, first female-president of UP Bar Council was murdered

In June 2019, Darvesh Yadav, the first female president of UP Bar Council, was killed inside Agra court. Yadav, who hailed from Etah district, had gone to the court to celebrate her historic win.

While her colleagues welcomed her with flowers, her former aide Manish Sharma fired bullets at her.

Manish was rushed to a hospital and succumbed to injuries later.
