The SIT, which is probing the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, took Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra and three others arrested in the case to Uttar Pradesh's Tikonia village today to recreate the sequence of events that led to the October 3 incident. The three accused were taken to the site of the incident on the Tikonia-Banbirpur road amid tight security.

BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Thursday posted a short clip on Twitter of a speech of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1980 in which he warns the then Indira Gandhi government against repressing farmers and extends his support to them. Gandhi tweeted, "Wise words from a big-hearted leader..."
After over 10 days of the Lakhimpur violence, UP Law Minister Brijesh Pathak on Wednesday became the first senior BJP leader to visit the area. But the Minister only met the families of two of those killed- BJP worker Shubham Mishra and MoS Ajay Mishra’s driver Hari Om Mishra. Pathak did not visit the families of two farmers from the area who were killed, the other BJP worker and journalist Raman Kashyap.
Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has slammed the BJP saying the saffron party “stands with criminals” and will never act against Ajay Mishra, whose son has been arrested in connection with the Lakhimpur killings. In an indirect reference to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he also used the term chillumjeevi.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has claimed that the police action against MoS Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case was a "red carpet arrest" and he was given a "bouquet" during interrogation. Tikait, who was in Barabanki to attend a mass marriage program, said farmer unions will continue their agitation till Ajay Mishra is sacked from the Narendra Modi Cabinet.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar has spoken on the matter and said that farmers were crushed to death in Lakhimpur and later they alleged that son of MoS was present in the car. He was arrested after the Supreme Court’s observation, he said, adding that the ruling party should take a stand. Neither UP CM nor MoS Home can escape, MoS Home should resign, Pawar added.
Ankit Das, reportedly a close friend of Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ashish Mishra, appeared before the special investigation team (SIT) at the crime branch office in Lakhimpur on Wednesday. The investigators had summoned Das for questioning in connection with the October 3 violence which had left eight people, including four farmers, dead.
"We told the President the accused's father, who is MoS Home, should be removed from the post as a fair probe is not possible in his presence. Likewise, we also demanded an inquiry be done by two sitting judges of Supreme Court," Rahul Gandhi said after meeting President Kovind.
Congress delegation, led by Rahul Gandhi, has arrived at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The delegation will present a memorandum of facts on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence to President Kovind.

Farmers from Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states on Tuesday offered antim ardas, the final prayers in the Sikh tradition for the protesters killed in the recent violence. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary were part of the large gathering near Tikonia village. Farmer leaders have vowed to intensify the agitation against the Centre's new farm laws.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has taken MoS Home Ajay Mishra's son Ashish to the Crime Branch office for interrogation in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, a day after a court sent him to three-day police custody. He had been sent to three-day police remand on Monday on the condition that he would not be harassed and his lawyer would remain present during interrogation.
Congress delegation, led by Rahul Gandhi, will meet President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, ANI reported. Congress had earlier sought an appointment from the President's office.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is on her way to attend the antim ardas of the deceased farmers, has reportedly been stopped from going there, claims Congress. She was earlier detained when she had tried to visit the families of the farmers soon after the October 3 massacre.
A BKU-Tikait office bearer has said that no politician will be allowed to share the stage with farmer leaders at the 'antim ardas' prayers for the four farmers who were killed in the violence on October 3. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to attend the prayers.
SKM has appealed to farmer organizations and other groups across the nation to organize prayer and homage meetings all over the country, followed by candlelight vigils in the evening. It has also urged people to light five candles outside their houses at 8 pm on Tuesday.
Farmers are observing protesting Shaheed Kisan Diwas today to pay tribute to the four farmers who lost their lives in the violence on October 3 in Lakhimpur Kheri. Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) also informed that the 'antim ardaas' of the martyrs of Lakhimpur Kheri will take place in Tikunia at Sahebjada Inter College.
