Thousands of people, including women and children, on Thursday gathered at Jewar amid heavy security to watch Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport. Heavy security has been deployed at and around the event venue. Visitors are being frisked before entering the 'jan sabha' area, officials said, adding that the police have banned black flags.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has said that it will be completed by 2024, i.e. before the next General Elections. The airport is spread over more than 1,300 hectares of land. After the completion of the first phase, the airport will be able to serve around 1.2 crore passengers a year.
