Lucknow: Over 1,000 people injured in firecracker-related accidents

India

This Diwali in Lucknow saw over 1,000 people injured by firecrackers, turning the festive mood into a rush to the hospital for many families.
Among those hurt was a 10-year-old girl with serious burns on her face, now being treated at Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital.
The huge number of injuries is a sobering reminder of how risky celebrations can get.

Hospitals were packed with patients

City hospitals were packed, with Civil Hospital handling 268 cases in just one day—83 of them burn injuries, with five needing admission.
Balrampur Hospital managed 482 cases, and Raj Narain Lokbandhu Combined Hospital took care of another 329, including 28 burn injuries and five eye injuries from firecracker sparks.
Thanks to extra staff on duty after a pre-Diwali alert, hospitals were able to respond quickly despite the overwhelming numbers.
