Madras HC reduces death sentence to life in Chennai murder case
The Madras High Court has commuted the death sentence of D Sathish, who was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend by pushing her onto railway tracks at St Thomas Mount station in Chennai.
The court highlighted the importance of giving people a chance to reform rather than just punishing them, and delivered its verdict recently.
Why the court changed its mind—and what happened after
Sathish's sentence was reduced to life in prison without parole for 20 years because he's young, had no previous criminal record, and reports suggested he could change for the better.
The judges also made it clear that everyone has the right to say no to someone.
Sadly, after losing their daughter, the victim's family went through even more heartbreak—her father died by suicide and her mother passed away from cancer.
