Maharashtra announces ₹31,000cr relief for flood-hit farmers

India

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a huge ₹31,000 crore package to help farmers whose crops were wiped out by the recent September floods.
The disaster damaged crops such as cotton, soybean, oranges, pomegranate, maize, bajra, pulses, and onion across more than 65 lakh hectares.

Banks told to pause loan recoveries

This relief means real cash support: up to ₹22,500 per hectare for lost crops, ₹4 lakh for families who lost loved ones, and help for livestock owners and destroyed homes.
Banks have also been told to pause loan recoveries in affected areas.
While the government says this will help farmers get back on their feet—especially with the next sowing season coming up—the opposition is pushing for faster action and more central aid.
