Maharashtra: BJP candidate's office attacked days before polls

India

Just days before the Ambernath municipal elections, two unidentified gunmen fired multiple shots at BJP candidate Pawan Walekar's public relations office around midnight on Wednesday.
The attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle and wore helmets, shattered glass windows and injured a security guard who tried to step in—he was hit in the finger.
The whole incident was caught on CCTV.

Police investigation and protests follow shooting

Police have launched an investigation using the CCTV footage and registered a case against unknown suspects, suspecting the attack aimed to create fear ahead of the polls.
Security has been ramped up, especially with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visiting Ambernath later that day.
Meanwhile, BJP workers staged a sit-in protest at the police station demanding quick arrests, with former MLA Narendra Pawar criticizing earlier police inaction.
The probe is ongoing as authorities follow up on leads.
