Maharashtra FDA suspends 199 food licenses and issues 948 notices
If you're eating out in Maharashtra, here's some news: the state FDA just suspended 199 food licenses and handed out 948 improvement notices.
After checking over 1,800 hotels, clubs, and dhabas from late May to August, inspectors found all sorts of hygiene issues: think cockroach infestations, uncovered raw meat, dirty utensils, and broken cold storage.
Pune leads Maharashtra FDA inspections
Pune led the crackdown with 4,261 inspections and 168 suspensions.
Konkan and Greater Mumbai weren't far behind; together they racked up Konkan: 3,142 inspections and 108 suspensions and Greater Mumbai: 1,451 inspections and 121 suspensions.
The FDA says problems also included the absence of water testing records and staff missing basic safety training.
All this is meant to push restaurants to clean up their act so your next meal is safer.
