Maharashtra FDA suspends licenses of several Mumbai eateries after checks
Some of Mumbai's well-known spots, like The Bombay Presidency Radio Club, McDonald's Colaba, Status Restaurant, and Khar Gymkhana, just had their food license, operating licenses, and food registration certificate suspended.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, stepped in after surprise checks in August found serious hygiene problems.
Until these places fix things and meet safety rules, they'll stay closed.
Pests cross contamination and falsified reports
Inspectors found everything from fly infestations and a dead cockroach at the Radio Club to dirty fridges and utensils on the floor.
Khar Gymkhana wasn't separating raw and cooked foods properly, which could lead to cross-contamination.
Meanwhile, McDonald's Colaba failed 18 out of 20 safety checks, including using fake cheese substitutes, and even faked some compliance reports.
The FDA says any violations will mean stern legal action.
