Mahua Moitra challenges arrest warrant in Calcutta High Court
India
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra is pushing back against an arrest warrant after missing several court dates for a hate speech case.
She's now taken the matter to the Calcutta High Court, which will hear her side on August 24, 2026.
Allegations over remarks about Amit Shah
The case comes from complaints that she made offensive remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Indian Armed Forces, and Hindu symbols like the Tulsi Mala, allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Moitra explained she missed court due to Parliament work and her lawyer couldn't attend because of a local Bar Association boycott.
She's been told to appear before the lower court by August 28.
