Delhi: Man masturbates, tries to molest DU student on bus

    What's the story

A man reportedly masturbated on board an orange cluster bus in South Delhi while sitting next to a 23-year-old woman. He also reportedly tried to molest her.

The woman, a Delhi University student, recorded a video of the incident and alleged that none of her fellow passengers came to her aid when she raised an alarm.

    Here's all about the incident.

    Details

Woman records the act on phone

According to the FIR she registered at the Vasant Vihar police station on Sunday, the incident happened at around 3pm on Wednesday, when the woman was returning home from college.

She was reading a book when she allegedly felt the seat shaking. "He repeatedly tried to touch my waist. I recorded his act on my phone before calling him out," she told HT.

    Apathy

No one on the bus helped her

According to the complainant, the man was drunk and continued to masturbate for about 10 minutes despite her confronting him.

She said she asked for help but her fellow commuters conveniently ignored her. "Shocked and numb," she finally uploaded the video on Twitter and tagged PM Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Police, hoping for action.

    Slow progress

    Accused not identified yet

However, it's been five days but the accused still remains unidentified. According to the woman, the police took about six hours to register the FIR, a claim which the cops deny.

A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

In July 2017, a woman had caught a man masturbating in a Mumbai local. On being confronted, he threatened her with rape.
