Manipur: Security forces destroy 25 acres of illegal poppy fields
India
Security forces in Manipur just pulled off a major win against drug trafficking, teaming up to destroy 25 acres of illegal poppy fields in Kangpokpi district.
The joint squad—Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Manipur Police—also took down eight huts used for making and storing opium.
Operation conducted on solid intel
Acting on solid intel, the team carried out the operation in the tricky hills of Awlmun, destroying poppy fields that had the potential to yield nearly 190kg of opium (worth crores).
Even with rough terrain and bad weather, they got it done.
As one defense spokesperson put it, this shows their commitment to breaking up drug networks and fighting crime that fuels unrest in the region.
