Manipur wakes up to early morning earthquake

India

Manipur's Noney district felt a mild jolt on Thursday when a 3.5-magnitude earthquake hit at 5:42am according to the National Centre for Seismology.
Just a few hours earlier, a slightly stronger 4.0 quake shook the Bay of Bengal.
Thankfully, both tremors were minor.

Northeast India: Earthquake zone

If it feels like earthquakes happen often here, you're not wrong—northeast India is one of the country's most active seismic zones.
From November 2024 to January 2025, the region has seen several quakes, including a significant 5.5-magnitude event near Bangladesh on November 21 that was felt across Dhaka, West Bengal, and parts of northeast India.
