BJP minister drives over farmer's crops, offers Rs. 4,000 compensation
In shocking allegations, a UP farmer has claimed a BJP minister's convoy drove over his fields to save time and ended up destroying half his crops. When he requested assistance, MoS Jail and Public Service Management Jai Kumar Singh gave him a paltry Rs. 4,000. Ironically, one of the poll promises of the BJP government in UP was farmers' welfare.
What happened?
The incident happened on October 25, when Singh was returning from a nearby village in Bundelkhand after attending several events there. While returning from a cowshed inauguration, the minister apparently wanted to get to the main road; he was on way to another event. Taking a shortcut, he drove over Devendra Dohre's fields. Dohre stopped them, but the damage had been done.
'Our government is very sensitive towards farmers,' minister insists
TV channels showed visuals of Dohre at Singh's feet, weeping with folded hands. He said he had taken a loan of Rs. 8,000 for sowing, but Singh gave only Rs. 4,000 as compensation. However, Singh insists the money he gave was only a part of the entire compensation that the government gave him. "Our government is very sensitive towards farmers," he iterated.
Angry Twitterati want minister sacked
Twitterati was left fuming. "BJP Min. runs SUV over farmer's crops! Measly 4000 rupees as compensation. Rural India continues to be harassed," said @takshakpai. "#SackJaiki this UP Minister made a farmer fall on his feet. #JaiKumarJaiki should be sacked," tweeted @Raamurthi. "Ridiculous since the UP minister had gone to the Jalaun district to inaugurate a scheme to safeguard the crops from animals," opined @Sarakshi.
