Modi wants India-Jordan trade to hit $5bn—here's what's up
Prime Minister Modi and Jordan's King Abdullah II just met in Amman, where Modi pitched a big idea: let's nearly double trade between India and Jordan from $2.88 billion to $5 billion over the next five years.
He said the countries' long-standing trust and fresh opportunities make this goal possible.
What's on the table?
India is already a top trading partner for Jordan, mainly swapping machines, car parts, fertilizers, and phosphates.
Modi suggested teaming up on digital payments by linking India's UPI system with Jordan's tech, plus inviting Indian pharma companies to set up shop in Jordan for easier access to West Asia and Africa.
He also backed Jordan's plans for modern railways and clean energy projects, with King Abdullah suggesting both countries could be key players in connecting South Asia with West Asia.
