Mohan Bhagwat backs legal protection yet rejects same-sex marriage
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat spoke to Gen Z and Gen Alpha participants at a youth conference organized by IIMUN in Mumbai that same-sex couples should be treated with dignity and protected by law.
However, he drew the line at calling these unions "marriage," saying that marriage (Vivaha) is a core part of Indian society because it builds families and shapes future generations.
Mohan Bhagwat urges cautious change
Bhagwat emphasized that while Indian culture has space for LGBTQ people, any changes to traditional systems should be made carefully to avoid creating new problems.
He also talked about the influence of social media, warning against misinformation and pushing for self-regulation over bans.
Addressing Gen Z-led protests on education reforms, he said their concerns are valid and encouraged using protest as a way to start conversations rather than create divisions.
