Mumbai women fake molestation case to extort crores from businessman
India
Two women in Mumbai, Hemlata Patkar and Amrina Zaveri, have been arrested for allegedly threatening to implicate a businessman's son in a false molestation case after an engagement party dispute.
Police say the pair tried to use the accusation as leverage to demand ₹10 crore from Arvind Goyal, threatening him with jail time and public shaming if he didn't pay up.
How police caught them
The accused first demanded ₹10 crore, then lowered it to ₹5.5 crore during negotiations.
On December 20, Mumbai Police set up a sting operation and caught them red-handed in Lower Parel while they were collecting ₹1.5 crore (with some fake notes included).
A third person involved is still on the run as police continue their investigation into the money trail.
