Navi Mumbai student's suicide triggers FIR against principal

India

A first-year nursing student from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar died by suicide in his Navi Mumbai hostel room on June 3. His mother has filed a police complaint, saying the college principal repeatedly harassed him with casteist slurs and hurtful comments about his masculinity—allegedly pushing him to this tragic step.

FIR filed against the accused

The FIR names the principal for abetment of suicide and intentional insult under new criminal laws, as well as under the SC/ST Act. While no arrests have happened yet, Panvel Taluka police are actively gathering statements from students and staff to piece together what led up to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
