Nearly 30% of Indian women face intimate partner violence, says WHO

India

A new WHO report reveals that almost 3 in 10 Indian women aged 15-49 have experienced violence from a partner.
Globally, one in three women have faced similar abuse, and these numbers haven't changed much since 2000.
Nearly one in three women worldwide, or 840 million, have suffered partner or sexual violence during their lifetime.

Progress is slow—WHO calls for urgent action

In India, sexual violence by non-partners affects about 4% of women—lower than the global average—but overall progress is barely moving.
The WHO urges stronger laws and better support for survivors, warning that without real change and more resources, protecting women's rights will only get harder.
