NEET UG 2025: Decline in qualified candidates

India

The NEET UG 2025 results are out! This year, over 12.3 lakh students cleared the medical entrance exam—a slight dip from last year—after some big changes to how the test was run. The exam took place on May 4 at more than 5,400 centers across India.

Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan topped the exam

Out of everyone who made it, about 7.2 lakh are female and over 5.1 lakh are male. The top spot went to Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan with a score of 686—the highest this year. Tweaks like a shorter test and no optional questions meant fewer people qualified, even though cut-offs were lower.

NEET UG is the ticket to medical courses

NEET UG is the main ticket to MBBS and other medical courses in India, with over 1.18 lakh MBBS seats available in 780 medical colleges this year. Uttar Pradesh led with the most qualifiers, followed by Maharashtra and Rajasthan—so if you're aiming for medicine, these numbers set the stage for what's next!
