Nepal: 39 dead, over a dozen injured in lightning strikes
Since October 3, heavy monsoon rains have triggered severe floods and landslides across Nepal, leaving at least 39 people dead and 13 injured—most in Ilam district of Koshi Province.
Lightning strikes have added to the toll, causing more injuries in several districts.
The Armed Police Force is busy with rescue efforts as some people are still missing.
Saptakoshi River swells, red warning issued
On October 5, the Saptakoshi River swelled past danger levels, leading authorities to open all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage and issue a red warning at the Koshi Barrage and warn of high flood risk in eastern Nepal.
People living near riverbanks in Sunsari and Udayapur are being urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as water keeps rising.
With more rain possible, officials are urging everyone in low-lying areas to stay alert and follow safety updates.
