NHAI officials charged following building collapse
A five-storey building in Shimla's Bhatta Kuffar area collapsed on June 30, leaving cracks in several nearby buildings but, thankfully, no one was hurt.
Two National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials are now facing charges for alleged negligence that may have led to the collapse.
They've been booked under laws related to endangering life and causing intentional harm.
Minister accused of assaulting NHAI officials
FIRs have been filed against NHAI manager Achal Jindal and site engineer Yogesh after residents accused them of obstruction and threats during the inspection.
Things escalated when local minister Anirudh Singh was accused of assaulting two NHAI officials at the site—though he denies it, saying he'll report "corruption" by NHAI to higher authorities.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has condemned the attack on officials and called for swift action.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities checking structural safety and supporting affected locals.
