NHRC condemns human rights violation in Odisha

In Odisha's Ganjam district, two Scheduled Caste men were attacked by members of another community—they were beaten, shaved bald, and forced to eat grass and drink drain water.
The incident reportedly happened because of suspicions about illegal cattle smuggling.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has now asked the state government to explain what happened within two weeks.

What NHRC said

On July 2, the NHRC sent notices to Odisha's chief secretary and police chief, asking for updates on the investigation—like what action has been taken against those involved and whether the victims have received any help or compensation.
This is part of the NHRC's push to make sure human rights violations are properly addressed and don't get ignored.
