Over 90 families displaced in Assam eviction drive

On June 30, over 90 Bengali-origin Muslim families were evicted from a grazing reserve in Assam's Nalbari district.
The district used 12 bulldozers and more than 500 police officers to clear out 319 homes and structures, with prohibitory orders in place to prevent gatherings.

TL;DR

Families displaced by river erosion decades ago

These families had settled here decades ago after losing their original homes to river erosion and mostly worked as daily wage laborers.
The eviction happened after the Gauhati High Court declined their request for protection.
This move highlights Assam's strict push to reclaim public land but also shows the tough balance between enforcing laws and the real-life impact on people who've already been displaced by natural disasters.
