PM Modi gets Ethiopia's highest honor on 1st visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi just picked up Ethiopia's top civilian award—The Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia—while stopping in Addis Ababa for his first-ever official visit.
This marks the 28th time Prime Minister Modi has received such an international honor, and it kicked off a busy day with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
What went down during the visit?
Modi and Abiy talked shop about boosting trade, development, and other areas of cooperation.
They shared an Ethiopian coffee ceremony (with Abiy showing off local brews), then took a quick tour of the Science Museum and Friendship Park to spotlight Ethiopia's progress.
Why does this matter?
This trip isn't just about awards—it highlights India's growing friendship with Ethiopia and its bigger role in Africa and the Global South.
With Addis Ababa as African Union HQ and the African Union now a G20 member, Modi's visit is all about partnership.
He'll also address Ethiopia's Parliament and meet the Indian community before heading out.
