PM Modi to visit Bhutan for king's birthday celebrations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading to Bhutan on November 11-12, 2025. His visit lines up with the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan's Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
A big highlight: Modi will officially open the Punatsangchhu-II hydropower project, marking a new chapter in India-Bhutan energy teamwork.
Hydropower project to boost clean energy in Bhutan
Besides joining in the royal festivities, Modi will meet Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to talk about boosting ties between the two countries.
India and Bhutan already work closely on things like hydropower, education, and culture—and this partnership is a big part of India's Neighbourhood First Policy.
The new hydropower project is expected to give a major boost to clean energy for Bhutan and shows just how strong their collaboration really is.
