In his first Independence Day address since winning a historic third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the government is committed to major reforms. Taking of unity, the PM requested everyone to come together to "achieve the resolve of 'One Nation One Election'." He also batted for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying, "The Civil Code that we are living with for 75 years is actually a communal civil code."

He called the UCC, the need of the hour and said that only after it is implemented will the nation "be free of discrimination on the basis of religion." PM Modi called out the opposition, which was long opposed the UCC, saying, "Some people do not want to see India grow. They are not able to digest the fact that a chaiwala is now the PM." He added, "Nepotism and casteism are harming society. We have to fight against it."

He also addressed the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. "The investigation in the crimes against women should be speeded up and the ones executing these monstrous deeds should be given strict punishment at the earliest," he said. Regarding atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, he said, "140 crore Indians worried about the safety of Hindus, the minorities in Bangladesh..We hope the situation normalizes soon. Indians want the security of Hindus and minorities there to be ensured."

PM Modi further thanked soldiers for their duty to the nation, stating, "When we see our soldiers doing surgical strikes or our air force carry out airstrikes, then every Indian walks out with their heads held high." Initiatives for the middle class were also mentioned in his speech. "We are taking steps to ensure that the government's dependence, interference, and burden on the middle-class reduces, and I am confident that we will achieve this as well."
