Preparations underway for Lord Jagannath's 'Bahuda Yatra'
Preparations are in full swing for Bahuda Yatra on July 5, 2025, when Lord Jagannath and his siblings make their journey back to Puri's main temple after the famous Rath Yatra.
The temple team, police, and local officials are working together to keep things smooth and safe.
Chariots turned south
Right now, the three colorful chariots—Taladhwaja (Balabhadra), Devadalana (Subhadra), and Nandighosh (Jagannath)—are parked near Gundicha Temple, which is seen as the deities' birthplace.
The chariots have been turned south for their trip home, while devotees have been lining up for darshan over the last three days.
Return procession, rituals, and more details
The return procession will start with Subhadra's chariot, then Balabhadra's, ending with Jagannath's—just like tradition says.
Alongside this, special rituals like Hera Panchami (where Maa Laxmi symbolically "protests" being left out) and Rasalila (celebrating Jagannath dancing with Gopis) add layers of meaning to the festival.
It all wraps up a huge celebration that draws thousands from India and beyond.
