Pune records driest June start since 1958 amid El Nino
India
Pune just had its driest start to June since 1958: zero rain at Shivajinagar station for the first half of the month.
The India Meteorological Department says it's all thanks to a weak monsoon flow caused by El Nino messing with weather patterns.
This kind of dry spell has only happened three times before, way back in 1915, 1932, and 1958.
Monsoon delayed, Maharashtra sees yellow alert
The monsoon isn't expected to hit Maharashtra anytime soon, and Pune's temperatures are holding steady—lows between 22.6 Celsius and 26.5 Celsius, highs around 35 Celsius.
Skies should stay mostly clear (maybe some afternoon clouds), but heads up: there's a yellow alert in parts of central Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada for thunderstorms, lightning and squall until June 18-19.
