In a sensational jailbreak in Nov'16, Gounder and five other prisoners, including two terrorists, escaped from the high-security Nabha Central Jail in Patiala. After masterminding the jailbreak, he had become Punjab Police's prime target. He was accused in as many as 15 cases of murder, robbery, and kidnapping. He also killed three of his rival gang members in Gurdaspur in Apr'16.
Gounder was the prime accused in the murder of his rival gangster Sukha Kahlwan, who was killed after a Jalandhar court hearing on his way back to Nabha jail in a police jeep, in 2015. He was later arrested in the same year.
