Russian President Vladimir Putin just touched down in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit, his first time attending in person outside Russia since the Ukraine conflict began in 2022.
The summit runs September 12-13 and is all about strengthening ties between member countries, especially on trade, investment, and energy.
Eleven BRICS leaders, 10 partners joining
Putin arrived with top Russian officials and was welcomed by Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.
Leaders from 11 BRICS nations, including China's Xi Jinping and South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa, plus representatives from 10 partner countries are joining.
This year, India is focusing discussions on tackling global economic challenges linked to war and trade tensions, with a theme of "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."
