₹100cr cash in bag? Man lies, gets caught by police
India
A 32-year-old trader named Madhav was stopped by railway police at Gorakhpur station with a whopping ₹99.09 lakh in cash, all packed in ₹500 notes.
He was about to catch a train to Bihar when officers got suspicious—mainly because he hesitated to open his bag and kept changing his story about where the money came from.
Police suspect money is linked to election campaign
At first, Madhav said the bag belonged to a government official, then switched up and claimed it was from his own bookstall and construction business.
He also mentioned getting the cash from someone he met in Gorakhpur.
The police aren't convinced and think the money might be tied to election activities.
Notably, over ₹5 crore has been seized on this route since July, pointing to a bigger trend of large cash hauls lately.
