SC refuses to ban stray dogs in public spaces

India

A Delhi couple has taken their neighborhood's stray dog problem to the Supreme Court, after the same dog bit six people—including an 8-year-old boy and a 70-year-old man—over three months.
The ongoing threat has made morning walks for the elderly and outings for children nearly impossible.

Dog was captured but released

Municipal workers captured the stray on October 22 but let it go just eight days later.
Since then, it attacked two more people: Vaidik, the young boy who now stays indoors, and Sonam Chaudhary, who was bitten while riding her scooter.

SC's order on stray dog issue

On November 3, the Supreme Court ordered all states to remove stray dogs from public spaces like schools and hospitals.
These dogs must be sterilized, vaccinated, and moved to shelters—not returned to their old spots.
The case will be heard again in January.
