SC sends contempt notice to KPCC over Surya Kant post
The Supreme Court has sent a contempt notice to office-bearers of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) after it posted a social media post aimed at Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
The court made it clear: it's fine to critique judgments, but freedom of speech can't get in the way of justice.
As the court put it, any effort to undermine the court's authority will be taken seriously.
KPCC president Sunny Joseph denies knowledge
KPCC President Sunny Joseph said the post was made without the leadership's knowledge and that action was taken against whoever posted it.
The court used this moment to remind everyone about protecting judicial independence and respecting constitutional roles.
There is also a call for an inquiry into alleged political activities by Rahul Gandhi at the Supreme Court premises last month, which might have caused any obstruction to the movement of advocates, litigants, judicial officers, or court staff.
