Soon, inbuilt insurance in airfares to cover last-minute cancelations

India

Good news if you fly often—India is planning to roll out built-in insurance to airfares, so you'll get up to 80% back if you have to cancel your flight last minute (within four hours of takeoff).
Right now, unless it's a medical emergency with proof, you're out of luck on refunds for last-minute cancelations within three hours of departure.

No extra cost for passengers

This new insurance will come at no extra charge—the airlines are covering the premium (about ₹50 per ticket).
It'll be included in the lowest fare categories, making things less stressful if your plans suddenly change.

Why this matters

The move comes after tons of complaints about slow or denied refunds.
The government and airlines hope this makes flying more flexible and fair for everyone, especially as the DGCA works on stronger passenger rights.
If you hate losing money over sudden plan changes, this one's for you.
