Southwest monsoon arrival and exit behind schedule in Himachal Pradesh

India Oct 04, 2026

The southwest monsoon finally left Himachal Pradesh this week, wrapping up eight days later than usual, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The season itself started late too, only kicking in on June 30 instead of the typical June 25.

So, both the arrival and exit were behind schedule this year.

Himachal posts 652.3mm, 11% deficit

Himachal ended up with 652.3mm of rain, about 11% less than its long-term average, making this one of the driest monsoons in over a century.

Most places like Kinnaur and Shimla saw normal rainfall, but Lahaul-Spiti and Hamirpur really missed out.
