Space talk: Mysuru students connect with astronaut
A group of students from Excel Public School (EPS) in Mysuru are about to have a pretty cool experience —they'll chat live with astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who's currently orbiting Earth on the International Space Station.
The session happens July 4 at 3:47pm IST, thanks to the ARISS program that connects students worldwide with astronauts through amateur radio, all to spark more interest in STEM.
Students have been preparing for this moment
Six EPS students, all licensed HAM operators, will run the radio link under their mentor Mahesh MB's guidance.
They've been busy—passing exams, building antennas, and learning how to track satellites—to make this direct connection possible.
Only school club in Mysuru
EPS's Amateur Radio Club (call sign VU2TQA) is Mysuru's only school club taking part and was licensed just last November.
The school is also recognized as an ISRO Space Tutor School—a nice nod for their hands-on approach to space science.
