Tamil Nadu: 38 dead, 8 children in Vijay's rally stampede

A tragic stampede broke out at actor-politician Vijay's rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu on Saturday (September 27, 2024), leaving 38 people dead—eight of them children.
With around 30,000 supporters packed in to see Vijay, overcrowding quickly turned chaotic.
Videos showed people struggling for space and ambulances stuck in the crowd.

CM Stalin promises full medical care for injured

Vijay arrived six hours late and tried to help by handing out water from his campaign bus.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each victim's family and ordered a formal inquiry into what went wrong.
He also promised full medical care for the 46 injured.
