The weather department has forecast heavy rain for places like Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Pudukottai.
The North East Monsoon's been active since mid-October and has already soaked Tamil Nadu with about 30cm of rain.
Why all the rain—and what's happening now
This downpour is thanks to an upper air circulation hanging over South Sri Lanka and the nearby Bay of Bengal.
Fishermen are being urged not to head out to sea right now because winds could hit up to 55km/h along the coast and Gulf of Mannar.
Some spots like Tiruchendur just got 8cm of rain in a day, while Chennai can expect cloudy skies with a bit of drizzle here and there.
