In a horrifying incident, a 23-year-old teacher was murdered on Friday in Tamil Nadu's Kurinchipadi of Cuddalore district allegedly by her stalker.
The victim, identified as S Ramya, worked at Gayatri Matriculation School where the accused, one Rajasekar, allegedly murdered her. He was upset as Ramya had rejected his marriage proposal nearly six months ago.
Police have launched an investigation.
On the fateful day, Ramya reached the school around 8 AM. Since she lived nearby, she was one of the first staff members to arrive at the school.
Police sources suspect she was murdered in the early hours of the morning as the institution was largely vacant.
Rajasekar reportedly used a sharp object to attack her. Ramya had wounds on her neck and face.
While some reports claim Ramya's colleague found her body lying in a pool of blood, others reported the school's sweeper heard her cries.
By the time the sweeper reached to help her, Ramya had passed away and Rajasekar had escaped.
Subsequently, the school management informed the Kurinjipadi police station.
Ramya had joined the school after completing her graduation from Periyar Arts College in Cuddalore.
Ramya's father Subramanian revealed Rajasekar belonged to Virudhachalam area and had been pestering his daughter to accept the proposal for months now.
"Rajasekar's family repeatedly asked me to give my daughter in marriage to him as they had known each other during college days. However, we were not interested in this marriage and my daughter had refused," Subramanian told police.
Cuddalore district Superintendent of Police P Saravanan said they have registered a case against Rajasekar and efforts are on to nab him.
The officer added no prior complaints have been filed against Rajasekar. Ramya's body was sent for post-mortem.
The brutal murder of Ramya has shocked the staff and students. It is learned the school management declared a one-day holiday on Saturday.
