Tenkasi farmers protest ₹219.96cr MLA vehicles, demand crop loan waivers
India
Farmers in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, are calling out the state government for planning to spend ₹219.96 crore on cars with drivers for all MLAs.
At a recent meeting, they showed posters urging leaders to focus on waiving crop loans instead of splurging on vehicles, saying farmers' financial struggles deserve attention over politicians' comfort.
Farmers petition district collector for irrigation
In their petition to the district collector, farmers reminded the government about its crop loan waiver promise and described how droughts, wild animal damage, rising costs, and diverted water supplies have made farming feel like a gamble.
They are asking for quick action (better irrigation plans and protection for their crops) so agriculture can actually be sustainable again.
