The fate of Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra's chariots post-festival

The iconic Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra is set for June 27, 2025.
Picture this: three giant chariots—each about 45 feet tall and weighing over 200 tonnes—rolling through the streets of Puri, carrying Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra.
It takes more than 200 artisans just 58 days to build these massive wooden chariots for the big day.

TL;DR

Chariots made of 5 sacred woods

Each chariot is crafted from five kinds of sacred wood, carefully chosen from forests marked with lucky symbols.
After the festival, during Bahuda Yatra on August 5, the chariots are taken apart and their wood is given away or auctioned to devotees.
This isn't just a parade—it's a spiritual journey rooted in tradition and believed to fulfill Lord Krishna's promise to visit Vraj every year.
The whole celebration centers around the ancient Jagannath Temple and draws thousands who come to be part of something truly meaningful.
