    J&K: Three terrorists killed in encounters in Shopian, Bandipora districts

    Three terrorists were killed in separate encounters with security forces today in Shopian and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the number of ultras killed over the past 24 hours to five, officials said. While two terrorists were killed in an overnight gunbattle in Hajin area of Bandipora district, one terrorist was killed in the Shopian district, an army official said. Here's more.

    A minor hostage might have been killed during operation: Police

    The operation against the two terrorists was started yesterday but the security forces had to proceed with caution as two civilians had been taken hostage by the ultras, police said. While one civilian was rescued yesterday evening itself, the other hostage, reportedly a minor, might have been killed during the operation, a police official said on the condition of anonymity.

    Another terrorist killed in Imamsahib area of Shopian

    A police spokesman said a detailed statement on the operation will be issued very soon but did not elaborate about the fate of the civilian hostage. Another terrorist was killed today in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district. The forces launched a cordon and search operation in Imamsahib area of Shopian in south Kashmir following information about the presence of terrorists there.

    Group affiliation of slain ultra is being ascertained: Army official

    An Army official said the terrorist opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated, triggering a gun battle. One terrorist has been killed so far in the ongoing operation, he said, adding that the identity and group affiliation of the slain ultra are being ascertained.

    Gun battle broke out between terrorists, security forces in Sopore

    Another gun battle broke out between terrorists and security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, a police official said. He said no casualties have been reported so far in the operation that is going on in Warpora area of Sopore. Yesterday, two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces at Kalantara in Baramulla district.

    Three security force personnel suffered injuries in yesterday's Warpora encounter

    In the JeM incident, three security force personnel, including an officer, suffered injuries during yesterday's operation in the Warpora area. A police spokesman said one of the slain terrorists was Amir Rasool, a local from Sopore, while the other was a Pakistani national.
