Top Maoist leader Madvi Hidma killed in Andhra Pradesh encounter

India

Madvi Hidma, a top Maoist commander linked to 26 deadly attacks on security forces and civilians, was killed early November 18 in a police operation in Andhra Pradesh's Maredumilli forest near the tri-junction of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
Six Maoists died in the encounter, including Hidma and his wife, Madakam Raje.
He was known for orchestrating major incidents like the 2010 Dantewada massacre and the 2013 Jheeram Ghati ambush.

What went down and what's next

The joint operation started around 6:00am after intel about Maoist movement brought together teams from multiple states.
Born in Sukma, Hidma was the only tribal member from Bastar on the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee and carried a ₹50 lakh bounty.
His death is seen as a major setback for Maoists as security forces continue operations in the area.
