UP: 14-year-old girl raped, blackmailed, and forced into marriage
In Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl was repeatedly raped by her neighbor, who recorded the assaults to blackmail her.
When she became pregnant, the panchayat arranged for her to undergo an abortion without her consent.
After police initially refused to help, a village panchayat pressured the girl's family into marrying her off to a 40-year-old man from another village.
Case status: FIR filed, accused still missing
After facing police inaction, the girl's family reached out to the Senior Superintendent of Police.
An FIR was finally registered against the accused and his relatives for rape, forced miscarriage, intimidation, and under POCSO Act provisions.
The main suspects are currently absconding but police say arrests will happen soon.
Authorities have stated that the accused will be arrested soon.
