UP expressways cut speed to 80km/h till Feb—here's why

India

Uttar Pradesh is set to reduce the speed limit on all its expressways from 120km/h to 80km/h, starting December 17, 2025, through February 15, 2026.
The move comes after a spike in accidents caused by thick fog and low visibility.

Why should you care?

If you're driving in UP this winter, expect slower trips—these limits are meant to keep everyone safer when fog makes it hard to see.
Before this statewide rule, places like the Yamuna and Noida-Greater Noida expressways had already reduced speeds even further for both cars and heavy vehicles.

What else is being done?

UPEIDA is stepping up safety with things like fog alerts at toll plazas, red reflector tapes on trucks, fresh lane markings, and patrols every few kilometers.
Break the new speed rules and you'll get an online challan.
Meanwhile, Noida police have already handed out over 59,000 speeding tickets this year—so yeah, they're watching!
