Police at Kotwali station started investigating after receiving the complaint on June 22.
Inspector Manibhushan Srivastava said they're checking if illegal dowry pressure led to the breakup.
Both families are giving their statements as police try to find out what really happened and whether any laws were broken under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
