Vehicle fitness test fees just got a lot steeper for older rides
The government has bumped up vehicle fitness test fees, especially for older vehicles.
Now, if your commercial vehicle is over 10 years old (down from the previous 15-year mark), get ready to pay much more to keep it on the road.
What's changed with the new fee structure?
Fees now depend on your vehicle's age: 10-15 years, 15-20 years, or over 20 years.
For the oldest heavy trucks and busses, charges have jumped from ₹3,500 to ₹25,000.
Medium commercial vehicles in this bracket now pay ₹20,000 (up from ₹1,300), and light motor vehicles will shell out ₹15,000 (up from ₹10,000).
Two-wheeler owners aren't spared either—fitness tests now cost ₹2,000 instead of ₹600.
Why is this happening?
The main goal is to push out older vehicles that don't meet safety or emission standards.
By making it pricier to keep aging vehicles running, officials hope more people will switch to newer and cleaner options.
