In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was shot at in Ballabhgarh's Shyam Colony, Haryana. The girl was returning from her coaching classes with her friends when the attack happened. CCTV footage shows the accused, Jatin Mangla, waiting for her on the road next to a bike and firing two shots as she approached. One bullet hit her shoulder, while another grazed her abdomen.

After shooting her, the shooter speeds away on his bike. Inspector Shamsher Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the City Ballabgarh police station, said, "The injured girl told the police that she knew the boy for almost a year as he also used to reach the library for study. However, she had stopped talking with him for almost a fortnight which had irked him. Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime and are now on a manhunt.

Family's regret

We should have registered complaint, says sister

The girl's sister said Mangla had been stalking her sibling for some time and claimed they had approached his family before this incident. "His mother pleaded with us and said he won't do it again. So we let it go. And the next day, this happens. What kind of country are we living in?" she said. She also expressed regret over not filing a police complaint earlier. "We should have (registered a complaint), but we didn't," she said.

SHO Singh told HT that "CCTV footage clearly shows that he had tried to shoot her in the head from a very close range but he missed the target and the girl miraculously survived with bullet and splinter injuries in her left forearm and shoulder." An attempt to murder case has been registered against the suspect based on the girl's statement.
