Woman sets herself on fire after husband denies visit to parents

Aarti, 30, from Barai village in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district, is in critical condition after allegedly setting herself on fire at home on October 21, 2024.
The incident followed a dispute with her husband, Sanju Raja, who reportedly refused to let her visit her parents.
No one else was physically harmed.

Case under investigation

After the incident, Aarti was taken to Lalitpur district hospital and then shifted to Jhansi Medical College as her condition worsened.
Police are gathering statements and evidence at the hospital.
According to Additional Superintendent Kalu Singh, further action will start once Aarti's family files a formal complaint. The case is still under active investigation.
